Why EDG?

It must have been something I read that triggered my desire to look up quotes with the word "edge." It's often challenging for me to pinpoint the source of my inspiration because I read A LOT, and inevitably, one thing (and one book, podcast, article) always leads to another.

I came across the quote commonly attributed to Guillaume Apollinaire, that was evidently authored by English poet Christopher Logue, and only dedicated to Apollinaire. In the wild west of today's internet, it can be difficult to know the absolute truth, so I will settle on giving authorship to both of them. No matter who wrote it, it inspired me.

The quote/poem is called Come to the Edge, and I have adopted its title as the byline for my coaching.

💡
Come to the edge," he said.
"We can't," they responded.

"Come to the edge," he said.
"We will fall!" they responded.

"Come to the edge," he said.

And so they came.

And he pushed them.

And they flew.

Edge + Wordplay = EDG

I love wordplay, including acronyms, anagrams, puns, etc., and so when I found a (google voice) phone number for the business that included BRIO (2746) which stands for By Referral and Invitation Only, the one I liked best included the letter/number combination for EDG (334), echoing my inspiration in Logue/Apollinaire's quote.

It didn't bother me that there was final E on the end because I decided that EDG would mean Every Day Growing. Growth happens at the edges of who we are thinking and being.

I prefer the word growing to growth, because growing is dynamic and present while growth, valuable as it is, is static and indicative of the past. Many of us who value coaching, including myself, have had much growth, and yet we get stuck or plateau, and this is because we have stopped growing.

So there you have it. Every Day Growing. Come to the Edge with me.
